Methyl aldehyde, the simplest aldehyde, is more commonly called formaldehyde, { H- CHO}, and acetic aldehyde is now more commonly called { acetaldehyde}. The higher aldehydes may be solids. A { reducing sugar} typically contains the aldehyde group.
